"As some of you may already know, Gus is no longer part of the band since last week.

It has been a very difficult decision to take for both parts, but we think it was definitely the best thing to do for both of us. I will not give any details about the reasons as I think it only concerns Gus and the band, but you can be sure that we are still friends and that it has been done amicably.

We have spent great moments together during those past four years and we wish him a lot of success with his career.

This affects in no way the future of Adagio as we are currently in studio,(just finished the bass recordings yesterday Wink)).

The name of the new vocalist will be announced in the coming days, I can only say he’s finnish and that he seriously kicks ass !!!
Drums recordings will start this Monday (April 14th) and of course we will post some pics and videos from the studio very soon.

Stéphan"

This posted on a myspace bulletin. TERRIBLE NEWS!!!!  Cry  I am devastated by the news. And i saw that some of the fans on the forum and in other locations are speculating that the finnish singer that may be the replacement could be the ex-Stratovarius (Timo) singer or ex-Thunderstone singer........would be terrible band additions if you ask me.  Sad Really i can't see either one of those guys doing the Adagio catalogue justice. I really hope that it is some unkown  guy who can handle the past Adagio works in a live setting. Really is sad how bands have trouble keeping a steady lineup these days. Here's hoping for a great surprise!

If they picked up Timo, I would never listen to an Adagio song again.  Seriously, he sucks so bad he ruined his first band--I don't want to see him ruin another.

Why is it always the singers who leave?  What is the deal?  Why can't it be, like, the bass player or something?  *sigh*

because if it was a bassist, it would be easier to replace and not notice a big difference? lol.

unless your trying to replace someone like.. say.. les claypool.. but even still, plenty of crazy musicians out there, but hard to find good vocal replacements

Found @ Adagio Website:

"New Adagio Singer!

We are please to announce that finnish singer Christian Palin is now officially the new singer of Adagio.
The band is at the moment in studio, here's a message from Stéphan:
We are all very glad to have Chris now on board , he is an incredible vocalist and an awesome ball of energy. We have already started to work together one month ago, and we will start the vocals recording on April 24th. Drums, Bass and guitars are finished, and we expect the cd to be totally done, mixed and mastered, for May 20th.
So far the guitar sound is incredibly heavy, and we feel that Archangels In Black is about to be a fuckin heavy album !!! "

I've never heard of the guy.....but i can't wait to hear him. Sounds like the album will be done in the coming months, definitely one of my most looked forward to albums of the year. Heavy is Good!!

Christian Palin also sings for Random Eyes and Essence of Sorrow, he can be heard here:

Seems a bit more of a clean vocalist than what I've heard from previous Adagio albums. And here's a little biography on him:

[scratching my head] ...and this is bad news how?  Adagio changed from the band that made their name as a neoclassical prog metal act (their first two CDs) to something that was not the Adagio I enjoyed, with in their last effort (not bad, just not Adagio) - and the main change in that time was the vocalist.  Maybe this will allow Stephan to get back to the basics.  I'll be willing to give that a listen.

It's bad news because Gus was an amazing vocalist who had the ability to handle the older Adagio material and sounded pretty damn good doing it in a live setting. Also he sounded damn awesome on the "Dominate" album. Amazing range and versatillity. It doesn't matter who they get singing.......it is the guitarist who is writing all the music. As you read (assuming you read the news above) they already have the whole album done, other than the vocals, so really the change in vocalists will not change what is already made and the way that Forte has his album envisioned. Now i don't know if it's the growling vocals that you are disliking so much on the "Dominate" album, but i can assure you that they will be on the new album as well......new vocalist and all. That's obviously a direction Forte decided to go, i could see it leaning that way on the "Underworld" disc, that disc features many growls as compared to none on the first album. So i guess i just don't see how you can find the changing of vocalists, AGAIN, can be a positive thing. But i guess if you're personal opinion is that Gus M. was a bad singer........then nothing i can say will change your mind. So i am thinking maybe it was the change in style, rather than the singer that you disliked.

I guess what i'm getting at is that the new vocalist will growl on the new Adagio album. And if he doesn't, they will bring somebody in who can add that to the album. That's just my guess, and i'm  fairly certain that i will be proven correct come another couple months.  Wink

We'll have to disagree.  I think he is far inferior to David Readman - but I am not a big fan of Brazilian vocalists in general.  I don't mind the growling, which, as fra as I know, was not done by Gus, but by Stephan, so it may still be around.  My real hope is that the new album is more like the first two, in the sense that these two CDs were full of surprises - 'Dominate' was....well......boring.  But again, that my opinion - feel free to differ.
