Title: LOUDCASTER :)
Post by: ~V~ on December 30, 2010, 05:59:55 pm
Hey guys, Kailef is trying out a new broadcast for ERR. It's a 15 day trial period so he doesn't know yet if it's for him or not.

The limit for now is 20 peeps but can go as high as 100 so check it out now by going to LISTEN NOW!, link on the main page, http://www.epicrockradio.com/ or... http://loudcaster.com/channels/483-epic-rock-radio-err

Any and all feedback is welcome, but please post in this thread.

I like it....it sounds better and it starts right up. So far, there doesn't seem to be a downside. Go with it if it's more cost effective!!  ;D

Nice! Would be a pretty good alternative for those who are unable to tune in during the days due to the amount of traffic.

I pushed the link and was greeted horribly by some Van Canto garbage. So now i'm a little weary to click the link again.  :P

I guess it can only get better from VC right?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Fabio :'D

But still I love Loudcaster
Okai, love is a bit over the top, but it's a brilliant site :D
I don't have to sit though:
"I'm a blah blah blah" or "Blah blah blah" for a minute before I hear my music
Also, it has a neat slide show while the music plays and the music does sound a lot better and when i do several things at one, live365 used to hate that and make that awful crackling noise and then jumps the music
so in all

*bows* Loudcaster *bows*

Liking it so far.  I have thought since I joined here that L365 is limiting ERR's potential (both in user count, and non-VIP player options) and this could open some new doors.  Dual-hosting is not such a bad idea - for higher user count, redundancy, and spreading the brand.

Works flawlessly in Winamp.  No plugins, no VIP, no tricking it into thinking you are playing it from the website.  Just open the stream's URL in Winamp and it starts playing immediately.  I'm sure VLC and other popular players will also work just fine, given icecast's ubiquity (I was actually running an icecast server out of my home 10+ years ago).

http://icecast01.loudcaster.com:80/483.32.aac

Also, icecast can be played on Android while L365 is still dilly-dallying with putting out an Android app.  I plan on getting a Windows Phone 7 when Verizon gets them, and while there is a L365 app for WinMo 6, I highly doubt they will bother with Phone 7 if they haven't even touched Android.  Boo on L365 for being lazy.

I have never tried, but I'm sure it's pretty easy to build a widget (copying the source from the Loudcaster site would be a good start) to play an icecast stream, so Oser should be able to easily integrate playing of the stream directly into the ERR website.  L365 has widgets available, but I have had compatibility problems with them.

Hopefully Oser can also merge the listener counts from the two streams so we can surpass that 91 record. :D

Legally, we have to launch the stream that's being fed through Loudcaster's servers directly from our page on the Loudcaster website.  We can't provide links to play the stream in other ways, but if you figure them out on your own (grin) that's fine.

I'm glad that everyone is liking it so far.  The only down side that I can think of is that it might dilute our numbers on Live365 a bit and make us lose some TLH over there, since regulars would probably select Loudcaster over Live365.

Well, that answered my immediate question regarding TLH.  I'd hate to see our position at L365 flounder.

Yeah, that could be a problem.  May not be so bad if Loudcaster is limited to 20.  Then when they both top out, bump Loudcaster up.

For what it's worth, I've been playing both all day today.  ;D

The only negative so far is that the player dosen't beep to let you know when your two hours are up.
live365 always let you know when your time is up.

I'm loving Loudcaster! The music begins right away. No more having to wait or refresh the page because the music didn't load the first time. :)

I would love to see Loudcaster stick around. I will be using it from now on. :D

Yeah Loudcaster runs smoothly....  best thing is that i can run it through WinAmp.  :)  (no worries of shutting down browser)

In WinAmp I read:  33kbps and 44khz for the stream. Not really the best, but for headphones enough.

I like it so far.   Does it kick you out after a certain time (like L365 every 2 hours) ?
I used Loudcaster for 6-7 hours straight at work, it does not seems to kick you out...
Another good thing with LC is that you don't need to login to listen.

Perhaps the TLH will go down a little on L365, but I am pretty sure it will come back very quickly.  When L365 is full, it drives newcomers away.  At least with 2 options, people will have more chances to get in.

Hello everyone,

I registered on these forums just so I could reply to this tread..  I met I_AM_FABIO on lala.com and he turned me on to this station.. Big shout out to him for that..

Now my vote..

A++++ for loudcaster..  for one simple reason..  I can listen to the stream on my iphone while at work..  (for free mind you)  so please keep this feed.

I know many are worried about keeping the high ranking on Live365.. but too many times in the past I was locked out and I gave up an the station for months because of it.  Just recently I've come back and was happy to see the 2nd stream.. Now I'm never blocked..  So it seems that this station has outgrown Live365.  If I was turned off, then there must be more who have tired of being locked out because of the restrictions.  Just my 2 cents..

Shaggy

You just made my day! I tried this on the first day i saw this post, and it didn't work for some reason. I just tried it now, and am listening to ERR on my phone now. AWESOME!

I definitely love Loudcaster, and if it ever goes away, I'll be very sad as it is far superior to L365 in load times, lack of annoying ads, and iphone compatibility. +45 votes for Loudcaster!

Whenever I make a change to the settings, the stupid thing will drop all of the current listeners, which is probably what's happened most of the times you've been dropped.

However, I added a high definition encoder to Loudcaster - When you look at it, you'll see a "Mobile" and "HD" option.  The HD option sounds much better.

HD, yes man, thats what we need.  sounds good.

So i guess this LC will stay on for a while?

Post by: Kailef on January 15, 2011, 09:50:10 am
Yeah, I think so.

We've already lost a TON of listening hours on Live365, and we might lose our 1st place position, because people seem to like listening with Loudcaster more than Live365.  However, Live365 is the way that new people usually find us - Very few people know about Loudcaster.  If we drop Live365 we will stop growing, so I don't want to do that.

That said, Loudcaster let us break our previous maximum listeners record, which is great.  So, it's a trade off, I guess.

So the 15 day trial is up.  and still online?

What are we to expect? Will it stay or will it go?

Yes, Loudcaster is still streaming ERR.

For now LC will continue to stream while the radio stats come in to determine whether LC is a good move or not.

Right now we do know that our ratings at Live365 are falling, and quite rapidly.  However, we were able to break our Listener's Record with the help of LC.

Stay tuned!  :)

Can you take a cheaper option at Live365 just to maintain the presence there?

I know this is an old article, but i felt the need to give my feedback on it.  I feel loud-caster is a lot better service from a listeners prospective.  Not only does it have a better quality sound quality, but it also has continuous feed, and i can happily listen all day if i wanted to without having to worry about if the music will stop, and even through the night.

So I'm glad you decided to stick with both.

It's great to have the Loudcaster stream for those that aren't able to, for whatever reasons as it's allowed Epic Rock Radio to expand and aid in the breaking of the listening records.  Although, the sound quality, does not compare to Live365 which streams in at 128kbps... LC is 32 to 64kbps.

I'm pretty sure Loudcaster doesn't have better sound quality.  Live365 broadcasts at 128kbit MP3.  I'm not positive, as I can't find the actual numbers anywhere on their site, but I think Loudcaster only broadcasts 64kbit AAC+ at most.

But my connection on mobile is just 50 kbps, before through loudcaster (tune in) i could listen the radio, but loudcaster is off, so there is another way to make me happy? :>
