1  General / Requests and Suggestions / Re: Why no new albums since 09.04.2017?? on: September 12, 2017, 10:53:42 am
Back around that date we spend several thousand dollars getting a new server to replace our old one, and we put a stop to adding albums at that time because of the transition taking a few months.  Shortly after the new server went live, our lead administrator V who normally does the work of adding new albums to the station started on a sabbatical because of some significant tragedies her family was experiencing.  So, right now we're kind of recovering from a few big issues.  I'm sure we'll start working on adding some new material soon, don't worry.

Bwahahahahaha that's great.  I wish there was a way for me to integrate that into the shoutbox so when you mouse over the person's name it shows you their achievements.  *laugh*

I know V hasn't been active in a little while but she'll be back.  We need one for her as well.

Gabor, welcome!  I'm always glad to hear when someone starts listening to ERR and they don't want to listen to anything else.  :-)

Warsheep is correct.  Unfortunately as of now the Shoutbox and the site logins are physically distinct from each other.

The nice thing is that once you log in once, you don't have to keep logging in on subsequent visits, so it doesn't affect things all that much.  :-)

Nice.  Especially nice to see Dream Evil make something again.

Great to meet you, Christian!  I haven't seen you around but as you say, you don't chat in the shoutbox very often.  It's nice to meet you and I hope to run into you in chat someday.  :-)

:I prefer the multi-line too; it made it easier to see all of the text when typing longer messages...but on the other side,  yes it is more handy  to use Enter.
Kai, there is no option to have for example 3 solid lines and enter?

Unfortunately there is not.  However, the developer, while a busy guy with his "real" job, has indicated that he's willing to do a little bit of work and make changes.  So, that might be something that he can do for us, depending on how difficult it is to implement.  I'll ask him.  Truthfully I prefer the multi-line text box as well, but it annoys the crap out of me to have to click "Shout" or press control-enter.

I havn't read all the other posts... but my opinion:
The coler and the moving and blinkin text drives me crazy! Can't live with that.
Can't login with my ERR name and passwort. I don't want to register at a new portal to use a shoutbox that drives me crazy :-D
I think I'm out of Shoutbox now (I think some peoples will be happy about that)... I still listen, but without shoutbox

Once you've singed in once, you don't need to sign in again. Also, you can make the shoutbox username and password the same as your ERR account.  It's your choice of course, but I will point out that signing up for the shoutbox takes less time than it took for you to write the above message!

I agree about the blinking text, it's annoying.  However, moving the smilies around has some pretty funny possibilities.  :-)

I'm sorry that you're so unhappy.

So far, 3 votes for single line with Enter, and 1 vote for multi-line.  Anyone else care to chime in?

Question for everyone.  We have two options, and I'd like to know which one you prefer:

1. We can have a multi-line chat input box, but have to click  the "Shout" button or press Control-Enter to send the chat.

2. We can have a single-line chat input box (which is what we have now, and how Shoutmix used to be) and just press the Enter key to send the chat.

Most (but not all) original icons have returned. I request the following tweaks:
  • currently *guitar* renders as (keyboard guy), I think that icon was originally coded as *keys*
  • Lets trade "giant pirate head guy" for the often-needed running unicorn, Gloryhammer songs beg for it  Grin

Oops on the guitar / keyboard.  There was a LOT to move and I may have transposed a line or two.  Yup, as I re-examine, I can see that I totally missed the regular *guitar*.  Okay, so I need to put in the following once we get more room:

and, of course...

Unless I made another mistake somewhere, the rest of the smilies should all be there.

I also downloaded all the stock smilies from Shoutmix in case we happen to want to use those rather than the stock smilies that iShoutmix gives us.

The developer is being *really* helpful, by the way.  I'm not used to the sort of quick and positive responses he's been giving me, normally support for "free services" is iffy at the very best.  If he does half the things for us that he says he's going to do, I'm hooked on iShoutbox for life.  :-)
13  General / Epic Rock News / Re: Shoutbox Problems / Replacement on: May 27, 2017, 08:45:10 pm
One of the developers of iShoutbox emailed me today and said that he can probably increase the limit to 150 smilies so we may be able to have all of ours plus room to grow.  He said that he'll try it next week and let us know.

He also said that he has adding a way to view the current people in the shoutbox on his list of "to do" items but it might be a little while before it happens.

So far I haven't found any other shoutboxes that are even half as good as this one, the others I've tested are awful, most don't even have custom smilies at all, and they only update the chat once every sixty seconds.  UGH!

FeuerFrei, I hunted around and I wasn't able to find a good Slack integration solution.  There were a few but they were mostly widgets that you had to click to make "pop up" over the site itself.  I'm pretty dead-set on the chat being integrated like it is now.  If you can come up with a way to make it work, though....  The only thing is that the smilies are a huge part of ERR culture that I'm not sure it'll work well.  You can create custom emoji with Slack but they resize it to make it fit inside a row of text.

Still, if we can make it work, it'd be nice.
15  General / Epic Rock News / Re: Shoutbox Problems / Replacement on: May 27, 2017, 08:51:19 am
Update:  Here are the problems I've encountered so far.

1. They seem to have a limit of 100 total smilies.  I'm asking their support team if they can add more for us.  The last 25 or so wouldn't fit when I added them today.

2. Am I blind, or is there nowhere to see the names of the people currently logged in to the shoutbox?  I miss being able to actually see who I'm chatting with.

3. Still no apparent way to integrate the ERR account with the shoutbox account like we did with the old shoutbox.  It's not a terribly big deal though, you just need to sign up for a shoutbox account before you can chat.
