16  General / Album and artist reviews / Dark Passion Play on: September 27, 2007, 06:05:38 am
Hey metalheads,

Ok, so now it's official! Got the Special Edition Cd (with bonus instrumental cd  Smiley ) yesterday. I'm still in awe! The best record i've ever listen to! Plus, two dates in Portugal for April 2008. 2 much for one day. Tks Tuomas...

Take your time mate. We'll be just here...
18  General / Epic Rock News / Re: "NEW" Nightwish on: September 24, 2007, 02:45:24 pm
I listened to the leaked version of the new album at my friends place. All I can say to all those Symphonic metal bands is that a titanium train called the Poet and the Pendulum is coming! The absolute best song they ever made, and ive been a fan for a long time. So symphonic, so powerfull... no, dont worry im not gonna spoil anything. Youll just have to see for yourselves.  Smiley

I haven't listened to the full album yet, but you aren't kidding: The Poet and the Pendulum is insane.  I'm still not convinced that Annette was the best pick, due to the fact that her tambre causes her voice to literally be drown out in everything going on. . .but in this case, it actually works.  It puts less emphasis is put on the lyrics, and more on the voice as another instrument.  Tuomas has gotten even crazier with his orchestrations, and the result is awesome.  Even if the rest of the album is a flop, this opening track is a stunning success.

Hey people,

Take my word for it, "Dark Passion Play" is the very best Nightwish so far. We are lucky to witness the beginning of a bright new era. At least we'll witness the sweetest revenge of Metal years. Tuomas saved his finest for this one... Without Tarja!

Nice analogy. But i guess we can call Diablo whatever we want. That's the coolest thing about this guys : they're really beyond labels. And no doubt, a great piece of art. I'm glad you like'em Ivan.

Glad you liked it! A friend calls them the Glen Miller's Orchestra on anfetamines...  Grin

Hey Metalheads,

Two bands i think are worth the time :

Vanishing Point - got to dig deeper in this guys work, but so far i'm really pleased with what i listened to. Very good.

Diablo Swing Orchestra - well, now it gets weird. I cannot describe this guys to you. Maybe it's Metal, maybe it's Jazz, maybe it's whatever you'd like it to be... I love the music and the originality. Check'em out and tell me what you feel. Half the people i've talked about Diablo sent me gifts. As for the other half... well, they're still not talking to me so... No way one does not shake to "Balrog Boogie" (even not understanding a word...)
22  General / Album and artist reviews / Re: Sonata Arctica's UNIA on: September 14, 2007, 06:06:59 am
Hey Fabio,

Yep mate, we won't agree on "Unia". Maybe i have too high standards when it comes to SA. But i know they'll get back on track...

As for "Out in the Fields", i believe it's a cover of a Gary Moore song. Ironic that the better thing in "Unia" is not written by Kako  Grin
Anyway, when SA covers a tune, it doesn't stay the same : or it sounds really bad ("Fade to Black" or "I Want Out") or it gets the song to a new excellence level ("Wind Beneath my Wings", "Still Loving You", "Die With Your Boots On"). That's the case with "Out in the Fields", IMO. I guess it happens with any band, notice the Nightwish's covers. Awesome "Over the Hills..." (Gary Moore again!!) or "Phantom of the Opera"; really bad "Wild Child"

Hey Metalheads,

Once again i must thank EER. Today i listened to "Out in the fields", American Bonus Track from UNIA. I can't tell you how glad i was. I actually like the song! At last!! Something i really like in "UNIA". How are the other extra tracks? I just got the regular "poor man's" european edition!
24  General / Epic Rock Chat / Re: What song is currently Owning you? on: September 04, 2007, 04:51:10 am
"Beethoven's last symphony" by Dragonland. Perfect!

Hey Metalheads,

Unfortunately back from the Sunshiny beaches of the South (of Portugal). Even with my 3 years old princess running and jumping all day long (and most of the night too), i managed to listen to some "new" music as intended. And here are the Summer Highlights for Sun-dance :

Mystic Prophecy - "Savage Souls" - great, great, great. Never payed much attention to this guys. I was wrong. They're a major kick ass. Made me think about Angel Dust and Anthrax (odd), but clearly not clones. Unique sound.

At Vance - "VII" - Here's how a great singer can turn a goos band into something awsome. This guy is not far from Jorn...

Falconer - "Northwind" - no words to describe this album. Perfect isn't enough. Haven't heard it before.

After Forever - "After Forever" - getting better guys, gettin' better every bear...errr...year

Stratovarius - "Stratovarius" - Haven't listen to it before. Not the best of their efforts, but any Strato is better than no Strato at all. "Zenith of Power" is very good. "Land of Ice and Snow" is one of their best ballads and i really enjoyed the groovy feeling of "Maniac Dance" (shake it baby).

Moonspell - "The Great Silver Eye" - Best of Moonspell. This guys blow my mind. A great selection. Must have. But not "our" kind of metal... be prepared.

Scorpions - "Humanity:Hour 1" - eheheh, right after Moonspell, eheheheheh. Anyway, the best since 1982's "Blackout"

DRAGONLAND - "ASTRONOMY" - ok, i'll wait for Nightwish's "Dark Passion Play". Without that on mind, this would clearly be ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Magnificent. The best i've heard so far in 2007, by far.

Last and least, SA - "Unia" - listened to it another 50 times, should be around 1 zillion by now. What do i remember? "Paid in Full". The best thing of the album still is the laughs when you pay attention to some lyrics. Maybe lthe songs get better live. At least they would be a good time to sneak to the bar for a beer...

Keep Rockin'

The Wish rules. Way to go Prior!!
27  General / Top 10 lists / Re: Fabio's Top Ten Bands! on: September 04, 2007, 04:13:44 am
Hey Fabio,

Great list of course. And may i notice that in a pure Power list (well, can you stick a label in Pagan's???) you included the almighty Maiden! Great!!
28  General / Top 10 lists / Re: Amir's Top 10 Bands on: September 04, 2007, 03:55:15 am
Hey Amir,

Regardless of the genre, Pink Floyd is an amazing... was going to say Band, but i'd rather classify them as a Fantastic Experience!

And yes, if the list is Power only, Blind Guardian should be on it. I don't share your enthusiasm with Haggard. They're really good, but no "passion" in our "relationship", eheheh. I'm more into Therion, definitely.

About Amorphis. "House of Sleep" and so on are realyy great songs. But if you let me pick ONE, only ONE, Amorphis song, sorry mate, but it surely would be "Black Winter Day"... Ever tried "To Die For" ? Finish band, but not as refined as Amorphis i think. Technically speaking...

Great list!
29  General / Top 10 lists / Re: Kailef's Top 10 Bands on: September 04, 2007, 03:33:57 am
Great List, as expected, Kailef.

I just don't think that you can drop Dream Theater out of the metal bucket. Prog, definitely, but still metal i think. "6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence" is surely one of metal's masterpieces ever.

Fully agree about Ayreon. But "The Human Equation" is a fantabulous METAL album.

Last note : Nightwish will get up in your list. Not down. Trust me. And, who knows, maybe Tarja will be in your next top 10 as well. She's recording a metal album...
30  General / Top 10 lists / Re: Sun_dance's top 10 bands on: September 04, 2007, 03:15:09 am
Thanks for the comments guys.

Notice that this list has one main "criteria" : no bands without a "best of"  Grin

I mean, i thought about band's career. It's kind of a tribute to some of the sacred monsters, even though SA or Noghtwish ain't that old ("Best of" both already published though...).

Anyway, i mostly agree with you Amir. Priest, gosh, should have squeezed'em in... Metallica are disappointing me for a long time. But when you think "Master", "For whom the bells toll", etc, etc, well, still the metal masters... Then it came the "Load" thing... But all in all, maybe in 10 years the list will be mostly power, with Mystic Prophecy, Dragonland, At Vance, Dreamquest, and a few others.

One last note : i kept two bands out cause of the "no honorable mentions" thing, eheheh. But they should be there : Falconer and Therion. And that's for musical reasons only, so, they must be good...
