31  General / Top 10 lists / Sun_dance's top 10 bands on: September 03, 2007, 10:10:30 am
No honorable mentions here. The top 10 is the top 10, not the top 15  Grin

Of course music is not the only reason one lists the greatest 10 bands of one's life. There are emotions and places and memories, oh so many memories... This said, let's rock :

10. Motorhead - grandpa Lemmy is the symbol of all rock. Excess, speed, loud music and loads of fun.

09. Scorpions - oh well, what can i say? Yep, Still Lovin the First Sting. My first hard rocking band. And by the way, Hour 1 is a great album. The best since Blackout.

08. Queensr?che - the beginning of all prog metal IMO. Glory to the her majesty, the Queen of the Reich

07. Anthrax - moooooooooooooshhhhhhhhhhh.

06. Angel Dust - This is the point where it starts to be difficult to put it on words. Fantastic music. Almost everything's there. The power, the melody, the lyrics, the voice...

05. Iron Maiden - for sentimental reasons, true. But there's a bit of Maiden in every band we listen to here at EER...

04. Metallica - all is said...

03. Helloween/Masterplan/Gamma Ray - call it whatever you want, know what i mean?Huh The guys that started this whole Speedy melodic thing we love. I do... They're still around...

02. Sonata Arctica - not #1 cause i'm still mad with this weird monster called "Unia". That aside, all i always hoped a band could be!

01. Nightwish - ...forever shall the wolf in me desire the lamb in you...

Hey Fabio,

Can't really pick a IM album. But if EER should start somewhere, than it should be "7th son of a 7th son". I think it's closer to the general "sound" of the station. But you can't go wrong with Maiden. So maybe the best thing is to choose one of the Best Off cds ("Gimme Ed till i'm dead" or "The Best of the beast"). As for Manowar, i love their music (not that much as far as GoW is concerned, but....). But "Fighting the World" and "Kings of Metal" must be at EER playlist. Must = should = it would be great. I can only guess the enormous effort that Kailef makes to keep us all rockin'. Thanks dude.
33  General / Album and artist reviews / Re: Sonata Arctica's UNIA on: July 10, 2007, 09:58:42 am
Well, i must agree with you Fabio. It does not have the catchy hooks, the song writing is very different, the entire album looks like a playground for each band member, Mr.Kako on top of course, definitely not their most memorable and it really never looses the momentum (maybe cause there aint no momentum...) Only our conclusions differ. I think "Unia" sucks. But well, as said before, any Sonata is better than no Sonata at all. And that's the only thing i really love in "Unia"...
34  General / Requests and Suggestions / The Classics on: July 06, 2007, 04:50:49 am
Hey,

Why are the "classics" away from ERR ? I mean, Epic = Manowar, right? I really don't like their attitude most of the times, but cmon, "Carry On", "Defender", "Bridge of Death", "Kill With Power", "Heart of Steel", "Power", and so many many more, ought to be here. Or is there a reason?

And sdon't you agree that the eternal Maiden should figure at ERR too? I almost dare to say that every band listed at "our" radio has a bit of Maiden in it.

So, my request, if i may, are two oldies : Iron Maiden and Manowar, for starters...  Wink
35  General / Requests and Suggestions / Re: JORN LANDE on: June 29, 2007, 09:19:39 am
Great singer. And the truth is that MK2 isn't as good as "Masterplan" or "Aeronautics". So i guess Jorn really makes a difference. Anyway, the Masterpla years were his finest moments IMO.

Hi Fabio,

try and get your money back for UNIA  Grin

Enjoy "Rage for Order", but keep in mind it was recorded in the 80's. If you know a bit about the sound of that era, you'll understand what "Rage" meant to metal listeners, moreover it was the same time when trash begun to pop out. There was Metallica, but also a lot of "zero melody bands". From this point on, there was common people and there was the Queen of the R?che's subdits!!

Hi Fabio

Just forget about Hyubris! eheh

You can find Tarantula at www.myspace.com/tarantulametal

38  General / Requests and Suggestions / Today's special... on: June 28, 2007, 08:58:37 am
Hello Metalheads,

Today's special is a local one  Wink The almighty MOONSPELL. I know they are a bit misplaced at ERR. But my suggestion is for you to check a specific album : "The Butterfly FX" It's really, really great and shows what the real MOONSPELL can do. However the diehard fans of the band wouldn't let them pursue this way (just like we intend to do with Sonata Arctica  Grin )

As an apetizer, check out TARANTULA. This guys have been around for 25 years or so. Personally i don't like the singer, but Paulo Barros is a good guitar player.

For the "girl fronted bands" lovers, there's HYUBRIS, which i really dislike, but...

Anyway, Portugal rocks! Well, just a little...
39  General / Album and artist reviews / Re: Sonata Arctica's UNIA on: June 28, 2007, 08:47:43 am
Bought it and tried sooooooooooohooooo very hard to like it, but... And Falconer, i'm really sorry but isn't a blend a mix of various things? If it is, UNIA is not a blend, and certainly not a perfect one, cause it's boring from head to toe. It's pure, not a blend, know what i mean?  Grin

Anyway, any Sonata is better then no Sonata at all....
40  General / Album and artist reviews / Sonata Arctica's UNIA on: June 19, 2007, 03:53:41 am
Definitely, if it wasn't Sonata i would ask my money back ! But well, inside this hugly beast called UNIA's belly you can still trace the remainings of what used to be the glorious kings of power/melodic metal (call it whatever you like). Eheh, a bit of drama never hurts ! Seriously, one cannot try to play, lets say, "6 degrees of inner turbulence" if you're not Portnoy or Petrucci (know what i mean Mr.Kako??).

So, Sonata changed. They got more (oooh so much more...) progressive and less (tooooo much less...) power! Change is not bad by definition, but this one really is. I'll keep waiting for the return of the wolves (no wolves this time), for i know they are the very best at what they can do. But very boring when they try to be something else. So Mr. Kako, you gave it a shot. Sorry it didn't work out. But i really hope you consider that it is "Paid in Full" (that's sadly the one song that makes it out alive. Drawn the rest in a lake of fire, please...).

I'm sorry guys if i am too rude with the album and the band, but Sonata are one of my favourite, if not number one, bands ever and it's really disappointing to listen to this crap 1342678 times, trying to like it...  Grin

Hey Fabio,

They're great aren't they? (Angel Dust i mean). Unfortunately they split after "Of Human Bondage". The singer formed a band named Mercury Tide, which was more into nu metal and stuff. I really miss Angel Dust. And by the way, if you don't take them too serious and if you have time to spare, check out Powerwolf. Amusing... Found them by chance... www.myspace.com/powerwolfmetal
42  General / Requests and Suggestions / Today's suggestions on: June 12, 2007, 09:18:51 am
Hey Metalheads,

I think ERR shoul grab something from german ANGEL DUST. Though, and unfortunately, they split, any of their albums is great. "Enlighten the Dark" and "Of Human Bondage" enclose some of the best moments of power ever.

TO DIE FOR. Not your tipical power metal sound. Oh well, not power metal truly. But worth a try. Personaly, i love the music.

43  General / Album and artist reviews / Re: YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE CD'S on: June 12, 2007, 09:10:10 am
Hey Fabio,

Queensr?che's RFO definetily set a new style, IMO, in hard'n'heavy (and yes, i am that old!  Grin ). I think that from that point on we could talk about Prog Metal (and not Prog Rock, which many other did way before this).

Sonata is an amazing band. Even though their latest effort is a huge mistake. ("Unia" really sucks...)

There's Anthrax and then there is ANTHRAX!!! Not our ERR metal, but sacred monsters of metal anyway.

To Die For may be closer to HIM than to Stratovarius. But this particular album, "Jaded", is absolutely perfect. Flawless. Not one bad song there.

And just for the record, i must say that prejudice has kept me away from helloween since Kiske's depart. I was wrong!! Only recently have i prompted myself to listen to what they did from that time on. Wow, they really rock! "Dark Ride" is as good as "my" Helloween albums and the new "Keepers" itself encloses 2 or 3 new Pumpkin classics (gosh, "Ocasion Avenue" is perfeeect!).

Thanks for the comments Fabio.

Hey guys, the thing with Therion is that it's very hard to maintain the excellence of Vovin. But GK is a great effort. Not Vovin though...
