1  General / Epic Rock News / Re: New Server! on: May 08, 2017, 10:44:47 am
Awesome! You've got my email, so let me know if you need anything for it (I'm assuming it's DDR3 ECC). I've typically got loads of server hardware lying around considering the data center I run out of my garage (see photo). Wish you were closer so I could get you bigger stuff more easily.

2  General / Epic Rock News / Re: New Server! on: May 05, 2017, 12:27:08 pm
Hey boss, what'd you end up going with on hardware? I probably have a bunch of spare parts I can send your way to help you out.
3  General / Requests and Suggestions / Re: Tower of Fire! on: January 12, 2012, 11:38:10 am
Not bad for a joke album.  I mostly just hear wasted potential, though.  Is the vocalist in anything else, because he's actually pretty good?
4  General / Requests and Suggestions / Re: Requests and Suggestions on: December 31, 2011, 04:54:20 am
I don't normally respond to these requests with my opinions unless the request, to me, is really good or really bad (also, it's really really late and I've got a bad case of insomnia, so what else am I gonna do but sample potentially amazing metal).  That being said, Viani has suggested some a few awesome ones.  After having gone through the last couple pages of requests, here's what I think:

Must Haves - (i.e. I'll be purchasing these for myself at the earliest possible convenience)
Snakegod - Great classic-sounding power metal with awesome vocals.  Too bad they don't appear to be a band anymore.

Winterstorm - Damn, that's some epic music.  Vocalist could be better, but even Kamelot and Symphony X started off rocky in that area.

Lord Volture - I thought they sounded good from the start, but when the chorus kicked in, I was sold.

Merging Flare - Great, fast power metal with an epic, sweeping chorus?  Can't deny how awesome that is.

Karuna - Just plain good, clean melodic metal.  Reminds me slightly of an early (post Rod Tyler) Symphony X.

Powerstorm (The Greek one, not the Russian one) - Fuckin' epic, and - if Encyclopaedia Metallum is to be believed - all done by a single guy.  What?!

Seven Thorns (suggested by Mir) - I love, love, LOVE a powerful vocalist, and these guys have a great one.

Honorable Mentions (i.e. I think these would fit well on the station and thus they have my endorsement, for what it's worth)
Forever Storm - Good stuff.  Not great, but good.

Tornado - Fun power metal.  Fairly recent, but their style sounds like it's from the late 80s to me. *I think Viani posted the wrong cover art here. Not surprising as there are about 20 metal bands named Tornado.  His link is to the Serbian band*

Holy Mother - Good, fast metal.  I generally like cleaner vocals, but they wouldn't work here.

Grand Magus - Somewhat epic.  Would definitely be better with backing vocals, or maybe it's just that track.

Chastain - Love Kate French's voice.  Reminds me of White Skull.

Zanister - Cheese on the level of Manowar can't be ignored.  A fun band that I'd like to hear more of.

Viper - Good classic metal.  Stuff like this makes me wish I'd found metal earlier in my life.

OverMaster - Great sound, decent vocalist.  Awesome chorus, though.

Stormzone - Good stuff.  They have a nice, classic metal sound.  If I hear more good stuff from them, they'll easily move into the must have category.

Stormhunter - Pretty good, but I prefer cleaner vocals.

Crow's Flight - Not bad.  They remind me another band on ERR, but I can't place it right now.

Sonic Prophecy - Solid, epic power metal.  Would be in my must haves, but I'm not crazy about the vocalist.

Arrayan Path - Pretty good.  Nothing to really write home about, but it's definitely solid metal.

From The Depth - See Arrayan Path.

Morton - See From the Depth. Addendum - These guys have a good vocalist, would like to see him with a more powerful band.

Hello´se - Pretty good for a prog-metal band.  Is all of their stuff instrumental?

Gutter Sirens - These guys sound pretty epic, but I think the combination of subpar recording and shitty soundcard (on my part) is forcing them to not sound as good as they really are.

Sonic Alter - Not bad, but closer to hard rock than metal to me.  Also, the vocalist looks uncannily like Bobcat Goldthwait.

Screaming Shadows - Good.  Sounds like a crazy alternate Universe where Bruce Dickinson joined Hammerfall.

Taberah - Good, would like to hear more from them.

Golden Resurrection - I feel the same way about these guys that I feel about Theocracy: Amazing vocals and musicianship, but I... how can I tactfully put this... I just can't get past the overtly religious lyrics. Before anyone lights their flamethrowers, this is just my personal opinion, I am in no way trying to belittle your individual faiths, and I will not start a debate about this here.  Also, that is one ugly band.  Does the vocalist have alopecia universalis?

Moravius - Good, fairly epic metal.

Echoterra - Not bad for a female-fronted operatic bad.  A pretty fun listen.

Charred Walls of the Damned - Very thrashy, a la Kiuas, but I don't hate them.

Everwood - Pretty proggy for my tastes, but definitely tolerable.

Trust X and Charisma (Харизма) - Both have a very epic sound, but I can't get past the Russian vocals.  I love Russian as a spoken language, but not a sung one.

Cypher Seer - Good musicianship with a nice heavy sound, but I don't really care for their vocalist.

Chronology - Not bad.  Their sound is familiar and they don't really wow me.

Wolf's Moon - Not bad, kinda sounds like Manowar.

Had to stop there as it's now nearly 5am.  Please forgive any spelling, grammatical, and logic errors.  Sorry for the long and incredibly opinionated post, folks.

Bad ass.  Thank you Matthew for not only representing good metal, but also representing Oregon.

You type incredibly well for being 100% blind.  If you hadn't said anything, I would've never known... and I'm famous for being able to read people.

Since it's for posterity, I'd have to say that it depends on the handicap.  A minor physical handicap, definitely.  A mental or major physical handicap (i.e. paraplegic, 100% blind, etc), not a chance.
8  General / Requests and Suggestions / Re: Katra on: November 30, 2011, 10:45:02 am
Hmm, maybe a brief description and a link or two to some examples of their music?
9  General / Epic Rock Chat / Re: LUCA TURILLI's RHAPSODY: A New Adventure Begins on: November 22, 2011, 05:08:25 pm
So, we'll have at least four bands with Luca Turilli in the library.  We can officially make the "Luca Turilli Epic Mega-Rock-Block".
10  General / Requests and Suggestions / Re: Avast Antivirus reporting a Tojan on ERR. on: November 22, 2011, 10:40:50 am
Avast won't let me open ERR either.  Seems it's been hacked.  Anybody contact V or Kai about it yet?
11  General / Epic Rock News / Re: Live365 is REALLY pissing me off on: November 07, 2011, 12:35:53 pm
I hate to throw gas onto an already raging fire, but I also hear that "standby" message and I'm not a VIP listener.  Of course, it's possible that I'm hearing it at a completely different time than the actual VIP listeners, but I have no way of verifying that.

Happy Birthday, Boss. We all appreciate the work you do here.

I can't figure out what you guys are talking about with LoudCaster.  I listen to Live365 in Winamp.  It's ALWAYS on (I never have to wait for a slot to open on Winamp and I don't have a VIP account), I never hear any advertisements, it's always synced up with what the site says is playing, and it sounds better than LoudCaster (owing to the fact that it has a higher bitrate).
14  General / Off Topic / Re: Question of the Day on: October 03, 2011, 03:25:34 pm
What are you talking about?  The question specifically asks who's fairer: me or Snow White.  It says nothing about whether ChrystallineHeart or Snow White is fairer.
