Whitesnake - Sailing Ships
5/10.

Thought the blending of baroque-flavored melodies and harmonies in the verses with the bluesier/rockier style of the chorus was an interesting juxtaposition, but it didn't really go anywhere in terms of either pitch or dynamics in either case until the very very end, and just kinda had me feeling "come on, come on, something should happen. keyboards or a second guitar could enter, or the voice could get louder or softer or higher or lower in pitch or SOMETHING to break it up."

I also thought the lyrics were a tad on the cheesy side, but given that it's a ballad by a hard-rock band in 1989, I hold that as par for the course, which I suppose a medium score of 5 reflects.

Next song is "Crash" by Bozzio Levin Stevens (whose members are... you guessed it! Terry Bozzio on drums, Tony Levin on bass, and Steve Stevens on guitar)

EDIT: While I was writing up "Sailing Ships," arrowisb beat me to the punch. 8/10 for "Space Oddity." Love that tune, and the Star One cover is even better : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86N8Iu_xs70

7/10. Good, fun, straight-ahead power-metal tune. Great wailing high notes from the singer. It kinda reminds me a little bit of some classic Helloween or something, although I can't quite place why.

Next up is "Man With No Name" by Derek Sherinian, featuring Tony Franklin on bass, Jerry Goodman on violin, Brian Tichy on drums, and Zakk Wylde on guitar and vocals

As much as I loved the build up, I felt the solo singer at the beginning missed a few pitches in their singing. However, as soon as the guitars, drums and backing vocals came into play, wow it was an overload of the senses. Then the song drops its angelic introduction for a man with growly vocals. Being a man who actually likes this kind of singing (its growly but not like the man is swallowing a bucket of gravel) I found this song pretty pleasing. Riffs were good and drum beats were pounding. It was a real head banging tune imo.

Next up is; Gothic Knights - Up from the Ashes

Symphonic Powermetal Rules!

Weird.  Not was I was expecting from the intro.  Up until 1:19 I thought it was a prog metal song, but then it turns to pure powermetal.

As far as powermetal goes, its good.  I'd say a 7/10 for me.

Now, how about this...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sLaiNBbMBc

It's a live song from Jarkko Ahola (Of Terasbetoni / Northern Kings / Etc) in an acoustic gig with a good friend of his.

Even if you don't like it, you should wait for the end and check out the finale.  He does some really awesome stuff with his voice.

Ok Kalief, I found that to be pretty awsome. 9/10 for me, guy has a nice voice and style about him, and his music. Likely will be checking his stuff out further.

Up next, we have a classic:  Bathory-One Rode To Asa Bay

6/10. I liked the way it builds, but at the same time, there's just something about it that doesn't suck me in and hold my attention as much as I feel like it should.

Now it's time for some fairy-tale prog-rock: "The Emperor's Clothes" by Spock's Beard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yviFJ-MA-zE

Its like Lenny Kravitz's voice went to the 70's! Smiley I give it a 7/10. Nice nostalgia feeling.

Now, how do you gents rate this: Moonspell - Luna - http://youtu.be/bwMf8rJ6VI8

Old school rock (not metal imo). Think 80's hard rock Cheesy
Loved the 'old school riffs' that were used.
