I think it would be fun to hear how everyone found Epic Rock Radio, whether it be by searching the internet for your tastes in music, Live365, or a friend!

I'll start.

April 7, 2006 - a friend suggested I try ERR since I was a fan of Kamelot, Nightwish, Angra, Symphony X, Epica, After Forever, etc.  Since then my knowledge and tastes have grown by leaps and bounds!

April 2010 - I was looking for another radio station on Live365 since my previous one became V.I.P
I searched for "metal" in general, and tried every one. I liked alot of them...but this was the only one that had a proper website.
I only had to see "Freedom Call" in the banner, and "Power Quest" on the 'now playing'....and that was it...YOU'RE MINE! Cheesy

This is a tough one...let's see, I was on last.fm, heard a band, went to youtube to see more. In the vid description, there was a link to Progulus(sp?) on Live365. I didn't quite like their playlist (not a lot of metal overall), so I typed in a band or two in the 365 search. It kept showing ERR, so I checked the station out. I fell in love right away.

I listened to another similiar station (called BeyondEarCandy.com) for several years that had a kind of shoutbox that was rarely used - unlike ERR's - but one time someone from here (whom I no longer recall) posted in it about ERR, so I checked it out and never left... Grin

I was bored while slacking with my work, and after a while of searching the web for a radio station or something of those likes, I finally stumbled upon ERR...Not much too it Grin

I was sitting at my office in late 2002, wishing that I could listen to my music collection at my desk.  (I didn't have a portable MP3 player at that time)  So, the next day, I installed the Shoutcast plugin for Winamp on my home computer and started streaming my music library to myself.  After a while, that humble stream originally intended for my ears alone became the Epic Rock Radio that we have today.

Spring 2006: Progged Radio went down from a live, ever-changing playlist of proggy goodness with a bit of symphonic metal thrown in to a standardized daily-ish rotation. So, I searched Live365 for more stations like it. ERR was one of them. And it was good. I didn't end up spending much time on epicrockradio.com until March 2008, when I felt comfortable enough with the music to submit requests.

(Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, Progged may have gone down earlier and I just dragged my e-feet finding replacement stations. I don't remember.)

I haven't got an exact date but I reckon it was about 2 years ago when I became really tired of listening to the same old FM radio. I searched for internet radio stations and came across Live 365. I searched for metal and found ERR. I thought the idea of epic music sounded really cool so I visited the website which was also cool and much better than some others I looked at.

The amount of stuff on the forums intruiged me, especially the top 10 lists as they were all new to me at the time. I spent some months going through the forums . Grooveshark was also new to me at the time and I used that site to listen to whole albums and find out what I liked before actually joining up to ERR around Oct 2009.

I came across Warrior Radio about 6 years ago. They played alot of power metal which I like. Then they changed their music style to pagan and folk metal. Because of that I then found skidrow which was great but played the same old bands. Then I came across Epic Rock Radio. I reckon I started listening to ERR 5 years ago. It took me years when I realised there was a website that you could req songs, had a shoutbox and a forum. The other sites didn't have these things.

I think the reason I didn't try ERR earlier was because rock was in the title, so I thought it was a rock and roll station. I guess I was wrong. I have never been back to the other metal stations.

Kalief and Valerie keep the good work up.

I hope you guys didn't fall asleep reading this post.  Grin Cheesy

I discovered ERR late in 2009, IIRC. I was browsing Kamelot's website to try and find new information about their upcoming CD (Poetry for the Poisoned), and they had a post referencing a top 10 list from a site called epicrockradio.com, where Kamelot was in the #1 spot. I checked it out, and started streaming it basically all day at work, and I've been hooked ever since. I thought I knew all the bands in power metal - but this site showed me how much I was truly missing, and introduced me to bands that are now some of my favorites, and had it not been for ERR, to this day I probably would not know about them. So here's a big *glomp* to ERR and the people who make it happen!

I plugged "Symphony X" into the Live365 search engine over four years ago and here we are today.

I remember reading about Epic Rock Radio in a magazine a few years ago. Cannot remember which magazine it was, but I'm guessing it was either Brave Words & Bloddy Knuckles, or Metal Hammer. It was Kamelot that guided me here. Smiley
